Program: Master of Clinical Dentistry (MClinDent)
Minimum Duration: 8 semesters
Maximum Duration: 14 semesters
Entry requirements:
A Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Malaya or its equivalent
At least 2 years of post registration clinical experience in dentistry
A candidate may be required to pass an assessment for admission which has been decided by the Faculty
For International students, the minimum English language requirements shall be as follows:
i. A score 550 for paper-based or 213 for computer-based total for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or
ii. A band 5.5 for the International English Testing System (IELTS) or
iii. Attend and pass the "Academic Writing for Postgraduate Students" course conducted by the University of Malaya
Centre for Continuing Education (UMCCED)
Mode of Study Coursework and research project Description:
This programme shall consists of three parts:
a) Part I comprising instructions in Basic Medical Science subjects, over a period of six (6) months
b) Part II over a period of thirty (30) months comprising of :
i. General Dentistry
ii. Research methodology (includes biostatistics and computer competency and scientific writing
iii. Specialty training in any one of the following areas:
a. Oral and Maxillofacial surgery
b. Restorative dentistry in Conservative Dentistry
c. Restorative dentistry in Prosthetics Dentistry
d. Periodontology
e. Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology
f. Child Dental Health
iv. Research component in the specialty option leading to the submission of a research report
c) Part III comprising of a clinical attachment in the specialty option, in the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Malaya
or clinical training centre recognized by the University over a period of twelve (12) months

Minimum Duration: 8 semesters

Mode of Study Coursework and research project
Description:

Mode of Study Coursework and research project Description: This programme shall consists of two stages:
a) Stage I comprising of a coursework component, supervised field visits and a research component leading to a Dissertation
over a period of two (2) years
b) Stage II comprising of Experiential Learning, Field Postings, Case Study Project , Community Development Project and Presentation
at scientific conference over a period of two years:
The details of the course are as approved by the Senate from time to time on the recommendation of the Faculty and will made
known to the candidates at the beginning of the session.

24 months of in-training at the Faculty of Dentistry

Mode of Study Research Project leading to a Dissertation
Description:
This programme is one hundred percent research work leading to the submission of a dissertation, whereby the format shall
be as stipulated in University of Malaya Regulations (Master's Degree) 2001.
A dissertation shall be examined, assessed and :
a) Awarded a Pass with Distinction, Pass, or Fail or
b) Referred for corrections without re-examination or
c) Referred for further work and be submitted for re-examination

This programme is a course of advanced study and research leading to the submission of a thesis.
