Structure
a.First Year - Refer to Oral Biology Department and First Year Medical
Course
b.Second Year ( Pre-Clinical year ) – Dental Materials & Dental Technology.
Dental materials & technology is the study of science and technology of materials used in dentistry. Its application includes
the use of restorative materials in all aspects of dentistry, technical materials for laboratory, dental instruments and related
armamentarium needed for these materials.
Following are the aim of the course:-
·To provide a basic understanding on the physical, chemical
and biological properties and the manipulation of dental materials to obtain optimum result that contributes to the clinical
success of dental operation.
·To provide basic scientific knowledge and the criteria for
choosing the right materials scientifically. These would instill interests in students to conduct their own material testing.
·To emphasize the importance of updating knowledge on materials,
instruments and techniques in line with the progress of modern dentistry.
·To increase the ability to discuss various aspects of dental
materials and technology with auxiliary staff and dental vendors.
c.Third, Fourth &
Fifth Year (Clinical Year) The students will be introduced to the clinic
by firstly doing a short project on each other following a step by step demonstration given by the lecturer. After completion
of this project the student will be able to start with patient treatment. Prior to this each group will be given a demonstration
for the various stages of denture construction by the lecturers on concerned. For the third year, students will spend about
6 hours a week in treatment clinics. The fourth year were spend 9 hours a week and the fifth year 6 hours a week. Students
will be allotted between 3 - 6 hours per week of laboratory time to complete their laboratory work.
Assessment The students will be assessed continuously through
out the clinical years which will include:-

examination - presentation of a clinical case
