Department of Oral Pathology, Oral Medicine & Periodontology
The Department of Oral Pathology, Oral Medicine and Periodontology is an academic department
responsible the disciplines of Oral Pathology, Oral Medicine and Periodontology. The department is accountable for the conduct
of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in all three specialties.Currently the
Department has 8 academic staff, 2 tutors and 6 supporting staff.
In the 5-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery programme, Oral Pathology subject
is taught in Year 3 while Oral Medicine is taught in Year 4. For the subject of Periodontology teaching begins in Year 3 through
to Year 4.
Postgraduate programmes in Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine and Periodontology started in 1998.It started off with Master in Dental Science followed by Master in Dental Surgery. Later Master in Clinical
Dentistry (Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine; Periodontology) was introduced. They are 4-year programmes whereby the candidates
will undergo the first three years at the Faculty and spend their final year with appointed consultants at approved centres
under the Oral Health Division, Ministry of Health Malaysia.
There are also specialist clinic for the Oral Pathology Oral Medicine and Periodontology clinics. These clinics provide
specialist treatment by the lecturers.Cases seen in these clinics include those
referred from other clinics in the Faculty, University of Malaya Medical Centre and other government or private clinics.
